Our next service will be May 4 @ 7pm. Limelight, our high school service will happen at 5pm, and then the adults take over at 7. See you there.
Opening Night is April 13
Posted in Uncategorized on March 21, 2008 by MichaelThe first service will be Sunday night, April 13. From there, we’ll do monthly services until August. If all goes well, in August, we’ll begin meeting every week in the fall.
The service is going to be a little more raw and relaxed. You’ll be able to text message questions during the message, and I will answer them on the spot at the end of the service. We’ll do a bit more music than we normally do on Sunday mornings.
Can’t wait until April 13!
Whatever it Takes
Posted in Uncategorized on February 18, 2008 by MichaelOne reason that we’re launching this venue in a bar on Sunday nights is that we are committed to do whatever it takes to reach people who are far from God and lead them to where God wants them to be. I’m a little nervous about the service on several different levels, but I believe we must get out of our comfort zone to do dramatic things to reach people.
People’s greatest need is not to get more from their tax refund or get their kids into the right school…it’s that they need Jesus. If a venue likes this allows us to create an environement for people to explore faith and find Jesus, then that’s a win. It’s worth the extra work…it’s worth me teaching another time on Sunday…it’s worth being misunderstood…it’s worth the risk for you to invite someone you know.
What Will the Service Be Like?
Posted in Uncategorized on February 12, 2008 by MichaelLots of people are asking what the services will be like. Here’s a look into the vision for this service.
- The message will be a 20-25 minute version of the same message delivered on Sunday morning.
- Throughout the entire message, people can text message their questions. Michael will answer these questions on the spot at the end of the service. No preparation, just straight up honesty.
- The music will be similar to the music we play at Woodland High School. Guitar, drums, and based. It will be a little more raw and relaxed.
- The room will hold about 140 people, so we hope to keep things relaxed.
- If the service gets full, we’ll add another one.
Not Your Typical Church Building
Posted in Uncategorized on February 12, 2008 by MichaelThe mission of Oak Leaf Church is to lead people from where they are to where God wants them to be. No matter where people are in life, we’re praying that this service would be a place where people can explore faith. We’re going into an environment that isn’t traditionally associated with church so we can reach people that would not typically step foot in a church. Maybe you know people that have been turned off by church…invite them to church in a bar.
Coming Soon to a Bar Near You
Posted in Uncategorized on February 12, 2008 by MichaelOn April 13, Oak Leaf Church will begin a Sunday night service at Club 104 in Downtown Cartersville. The service will be similar to morning services at Woodland High School, but the environment will help create a more relaxed environment. During the message, you’ll even be able to text message questions, which will be answered on the fly at the conclusion of the service.
